About Rachel Miller
Rachel Miller launched Tom Sawyer Entertainment (TSE) in February 2006 to manage the careers of writers and directors of feature films and television. Her company mission was to find young, innovative voices and groom them as the next generation of Hollywood storytellers.
Since launching, TSE has expanded its roster to include animation, digital media, publishing and comic book talent. Client comedian Ben Schwartz won a 2009 Emmy, and other clients include writers and directors on “The Daily Show,” “The Simpsons” and “The Leno Show.”
Rachel has sold three client humor novels: “Grandma’s Dead: Breaking Bad News with Baby Animals” and “Why Is Daddy in a Dress: Asking Awkward Questions with Baby Animals” to Harper Collins and “Cook to Bang” to St. Martin’s Press.
More recently, TSE wrapped production on feature film HAPPYTHANKYOUMOREPLEASE written and directed by Josh Radnor (“How I Met Your Mother”). Josh is also starring along with Malin Akerman, Kate Mara, Richard Jenkins, Zoe Kazan, Pablo Schreiber and Tony Hale. TSE’s Jesse Hara produced along with Paper Street Films and Back Lot Pictures. The movie has been selected to screen in competition at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.
Rachel also sold a feature film called DREAM ON to Mandate Pictures from an original idea of hers. Lawrence Mark (DREAMGIRLS and JULIE & JULIA) is producing with her client Jason Ubaldi writing the script.
Rachel started in the entertainment industry at the age of 16 when she optioned the film rights to a Young Adult novel. She then attended college at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, during which she interned with Debra Hill (HALLOWEEN, FISHER KING), Joan Scott Management (founder of WRITERS & ARTISTS), and Artisan (THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT 2 and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM).
After graduating, Rachel returned to her hometown of Los Angeles to pay her dues by working at: Endeavor Talent Agency, Handprint Entertainment (Mariah Carey, Brandy, and Tyra Banks) and Red Wagon Entertainment (JARHEAD, MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, BEWITCHED).
Rachel has spoken at New York University, the CBS Diversity Program, the Screenwriters.com Lecture Series, Willamette Writer’s Conference (Portland, Oregon), AFI (American Film Institute), Monterrey Film Festival (Monterrey, Mexico), Rio International Film Festival (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and at Ascent Hollywood in Los Angeles.
